Spinning Memories

Like a spindle spinning too fast, are the memories I am creating these days. How can I hold on to them? How can I savor them tomorrow?

My camera faithfully stays by my side… but within hours its disc gets clogged with digital frames that I have saved. Every once in a while, instead of holding on to a picture, I want to savor the moment, and whisper a prayer to my God.

Oh! Where can I start? Tiberius? Galilee? Jerusalem? I have no words to express the awesomeness of God that surrounds me as I walk through the well trodden roads on Jerusalem, or as I gaze at the deep waters of Galilee or as I look at the night sky in Tiberius.

Today we were at the Southern Steps of the temple. There, sitting on the Temple stairs, we worshiped God. Jesus knew when He walked those steps, that one day I would be become a part of history, and I would walk on those temple steps. I cannot comprehend with my finite mind the sovereignty and the continuity over time of our God. History cannot store Him within her covers, because He is the author of history.

As we came out of the steps I just wanted to run into the arms of God and hug Him like I do my dad, my husband, my daughter.

In the evening we went to the Holocaust Museum. Once again I was reminded of the depths of evil we can sink to, but for the grace of God. Children, men, and women perished in thousands… while the world turned a blind eye to the horrors of evil. If we pause and think for a minute, we are not very different today… we still justify, we still close our eyes, we still turn away when those who are being pursued by evil need our help.

After dinner, we had a great time of joyful worship! How wonderful it is to praise God amidst laughter and joy spilling across the room!

Indeed, these days are going by faster than I can grip them. I want to taste every morsel and cherish them in my heart. They will be for me my stones of remembrance that I will hold on to, when I need to be reminded of my God’s love for me.
